Troubleshoot Chamberlain/LiftMaster safety reversing sensors and Genie Safe-T-Beam systems from the actual LED state, wiring evidence and closing behavior.
Do not treat every door-that-will-not-close symptom as an alignment problem. LED state can separate no-power/wiring faults from obstruction, misalignment, interference and sensor-specific failures.
The useful evidence is the pair of sensor states together. Chamberlain/LiftMaster systems commonly use an amber sending LED and green receiving LED, while Genie Safe-T-Beam uses its own red/green diagnostic table and blink patterns.
A clear doorway does not prove the safety circuit is healthy. Wiring, power, sensor alignment and interference can produce different LED combinations, so read the lights before moving brackets or replacing parts.
What to capture before changing anything
- Write down both LED states before touching either sensor.
- Check for a physical obstruction before changing alignment.
- Separate both-lights-off from one-light-off/flickering conditions.
- After correction, use the manufacturer safety-reversal test rather than judging only by one successful close.
